THE ALAN TURING INSTITUTE
Launched in November 2015, the Alan Turing Institute is the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. Our mission is to make great leaps in data science research to change the world for the better.
The Institute is headquartered at The British Library and brings together researchers from a range of disciplines – mathematics, statistics, computing, engineering and social sciences, – from thirteen leading universities as well as industry partners.
The RSE team is a vital part of the Institute, reflecting its mission to enable practical applications of its cutting-edge research. RSEs understand ongoing research, work with researchers to create software requirements, develop code, document and explain the software, and support the release and maintenance of the software through open-source channels and publication in research journals.
The post requires a proactive, experienced individual who is passionate about the work of the Institute and is eager to produce robust, well-engineered and useable software. The post will be primarily located at the institute’s offices at the British Library in London, however there may be opportunities to visit our five founding Universities throughout the duration of the post.
Further information about the role of Research Software Engineers in general can be found on the website of the Software Sustainability Institute (http://www.software.ac.uk/research-software-engineers).
We are also recruiting for a Data Scientist. These roles are closely related, if you feel you are a hybrid whose expertise lies somewhere in the middle, please do apply to either, and note in your application which job criteria you feel you meet for *both* roles.
Although this is offered as a full time role based in the London offices, we are extremely supportive of other working models compatible with candidates lives. Requests to work flexibly, in location or in time, or other reasonable adjustments, will be given positive consideration.
HOW TO APPLY
This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse, growing organisation with a strong team of individuals at the helm. There is a generous benefits package including Health Care, enrolment into a generous pension scheme, Cycle2work and childcare vouchers. The Institute also offers 30 days’ holiday per year exclusive of bank holidays.
Further information about the role, duties and responsibilities can be found on the Turing website and role description:
