Call for Volunteers

17-19 September 2019, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK

Do you want to help make #UKRSE19 happen?

The fourth annual conference for Research Software Engineers is taking place in Birmingham between the 17th and 19th September 2019, and we’re looking for volunteers to join the team and help the conference run smoothly.

What You’ll Do

Volunteers will be asked to assist with a wide range of tasks, from registering delegates as they arrive to ensuring that our varied program is highlighted on social media. Most importantly, you’ll act as a first point of contact should any delegates need assistance during the conference, and will need to make sure everyone feels welcome and valued.

In return you will receive complimentary entrance to both the conference and the conference dinner on the Wednesday evening. You will need to arrange your own transport and, if required, accommodation for the duration of the conference. Please be aware that you will need to arrive on Monday evening ahead of the conference for preparation.

What We’re Looking For

As your main job will be dealing with the delegates, you’ll need to be friendly and outgoing with good communication skills. Any experience in other customer service roles would be advantageous, but is not essential; a willingness to help others is the most important asset.

While there is no requirement for you to have any particular technical skills, we would be very interested to hear from applicants who have experience using audio-visual technology in a conference or live performance environment.

Applications for volunteers will close on the 31st of May and successful applicants will be informed by the 8th of June before registration opens on the 17th June.
