The Scientific Computing Department (SCD) of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) develops a variety of image analysis and visualisation codes to support a wide range of science domains and industry applications of national importance to the UK.
About The Role
STFC are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and user focused Software Engineer to contribute to the development of community driven image analysis codes in collaborations with leading UK universities and facilities in tomographic imaging.
You will have the opportunity to work in the highly vibrant Visual Analytics and Imaging Systems Group (VAIS) and you will be part of an ambitious growth plan for the group, which will provide opportunities for researchers and engineers alike who are interested in tomographic imaging.
You will work in a highly multidisciplinary environment with a team of software developers, mathematician, image analysis specialist and experimentalists, to design, develop and enhance a suite of high end image analysis and visualisation software and technologies with science communities and industrialists.
You would work on a mix of projects with other groups within STFC, liaise with the Group’s collaborators, users and members of the Collaborative Computation Projects (CCPi) programme. You will also be involved in establishing networks and collaborations, for instance, via contributing to papers and R&D proposals in collaborations with academics and industrialists.
It is essential that you have an MSc or PhD in science and engineering or equivalent experience.
You must have proven ability to deliver on complex software development in research projects and experience in implementing software or systems for image analysis.
Good knowledge or experience in modern programming languages, e.g. Python, C++ is also required for this role.
It is desirable that you have experience in using tomography imaging facilities as well as experience in developing tomography image analysis codes for reconstruction, segmentation, quantification and visualisation.
The ability to work as part of a small team and independently would be beneficial in the position.
