Job: RSE Data Scientist for Atomistic & Mesoscale Modelling
Duration: 3 years, full time
Salary: £30,056 to £41,572
Location: STFC Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington, UK.
About the role: You will work together with a materials modeller to exploit knowledge of modelling methodologies and involve elements of underlying research in data structuring and formatting to meet the interoperability challenges; developing the required metadata, as well as implementing it in various codes and testing it for industrially-relevant use cases.
About You: We are looking for adaptable and experienced computer data scientists with interests and skills in research software creation, interoperability and data curation. Knowledge, experience or higher degree in materials or multiscale modelling are advantageous.
Background: Lead the creation of open data standards for simulations using multiple methodologies, codes, length and time scales, defining metadata standards and taxonomies complying with EMMO ontology. Build upon unification ambitions by RoMM (Review of Materials Modelling) and Digital Economy, MODA (MOdelling DAta generalisation), generated by the European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC).
The data standards will be implemented in various modelling software packages, such as those developed at STFC Daresbury Laboratory (DL_POLY, DL_MESO etc.), using an underlying data format such as XML or JSON to boost interoperability and simplify communication between simulation codes and software mappers used to move between modelling methods.
