The Research Software Developers Network (RSDN) in Oxford was started in June 2015 as a joint initiative between Computer Science, the Oxford e-Research Centre, Advanced Research Computing, central IT Services, the Bodleian Libraries and Digital Humanities. It aims to be an inclusive community for software and data developers across the whole University (hence downplaying the ‘engineer’ title). Such people are often isolated, on short term contracts, and hard both to recruit and retain. The RSDN gives peer support and a venue to share experiences & expertise, provide appropriate advanced training, facilitate re-employment with the University, and make the case internally for an RSE/RSD career path. We run ~monthly meetings typically consisting of lightning talks from members and longer slots from relevant groups or individuals. The RSDN is led by Jonathan Cooper.
